Is it normal for permanent black hair dye to fade within about 2 weeks!?

Whenever I dye my hair black in the hairdressers it always ends up fading within a week or so!

This really annoys me, I use coloured shampoo and care products, I also always wait at least three days before washing my hair the first time to let the dye set in. Is this normal?! I thought black dye was very permanent but if I leave it about a month or so its light brown!

Would it be better if I use box dye on my hair?

It doesnt make any sense to me.

Thanks in advance!

It sounds like your hair is very porous and isnt holding the color because of it. Ask your stylist to fill your hair first next time before just straight coloring it. Or, do it yourself at home using a dark brown semipermanent hair dye. Then, go have her dye it black over that. The semi perm color will help the black dye grab better.

(If your hair is that porous though, you are close to having ruined hair.. is there any way you can accept the light brown and go with it?)

Yeah, it fades a little for me too. I only do my own from the box, though. I never go to the salon because it's too expensive for me. I usually try to leave the dye in my hair for a longer time than indicated in the directions and I won't wash my hair for a day or two after.

but just go to a local beauty store and ask them the best shampoo for your hair and how to treat it :D

It probably has less to do with your dye or care and more to do with your hair. Some people's hair is just more resilient to hair dyes and will naturally trend back to it's original color. You could try other dyes but chances are your hair is just not going to take the new color.

Sorry.

All hair dyes fade after a few weeks from colouring it, it's normal. It's from washing it and just being out in the environment, it happens. I don't think that a box dye will make it change, but if you want to try it out, go ahead.

Your hair is blonde, meaning it is more porous than brunette hair. What hair dye does, is it fills in the "pores" with color, making it richer, thicker looking, and darker in color ofcourse.

When dying light hair dark, it will take about 2 applications for it to stop fading so quickly. Unfortunately, it is inevitable for your hair to fade. After a few applications, it shouldn't fade for at least a few months (but by then, you'll need root touch-ups).

Try to find a L'Oreal Professional hair salon. They are one of the most prestigious hair salons, and the stylists will most likely know what they're doing, and use the best techniques to keep the color in your hair.

One crucial tip! When shampooing your hair, do not rub your hair into your scalp like you're accustomed to. Your stylist should have advised you to rub the shampoo gently into your hair by rubbing your hair between your fingers after applying shampoo. By vigorously rubbing your head, scalp and hair when shampooing, your color will leak faster.

Also try washing your hair only once every other day. It may sound gross, but hairstylists will tell you that's how often you're suppose to wash it.

Hope that helps!
