Hair straightner problems?

My mom used my straightner which i could care less, but she didnt know that you cant have hair products in your ahir while straightning. Anyways long story short I have this like crust like brownish blakc on my iron i scrapped it with a knife but is there any other way to clean it?

There are products that work to protect hair from the heat when flat ironing such as matrix gold heat dry mist...it works great with minimal residue. Try cleaning it with something that is non abrasive (uhhhhhhh that means ditch the knife) like a microfiber cloth or a bit of water or windex on a face cloth. If you use something like a knife or a scrubber sponge you are gonna kill the plates causing damage to your hair.
