Are products sold in salons really superior to ones found in stores?

For instance even if I spend the money to buy a more expensive shampoo/conditioner for hair care in the drug stores (say $12 vs, $4.99 shampoo), is the $12 shampoo still 'poorer' in quality and really won't give you that volume for thicker hair? And you really need to buy that $40 shampoo recommended by the hair dresser?

Personally I believe its not the products themselves but what you can do with them that counts, they use that to their advantage in salons as they are experienced...

I don't think that the salon products are any better than the ones found in stores. You can buy specialized shampoos in stores (color-treated, or curly hair). Garnier Fructus has a great line of hair-products that work great, even better than salon products!

In my experience it usually is better. Read the ingredients on the label, that's what you SHOULD be paying for. If the ingredients are the same, then all you are paying for is a fancy brand name.

sometimes they are; sometimes salons just stop carrying them because they are now available in regular stores for cheaper than the salon carries them. Sometimes the manufacturer will even let the big stores sell the stuff cheaper than they sell it to the salons. It varies. Its best to just use whatever makes your hair feel nice. Especially if you are on a tight budget, the extra cost of buying a salon product is not always worth it.

Most of the salon products are a superior quality but they more expensive for sure. The salon will guarantee their work if you purchase their shampoo and conditioner whereas if you don't they cannot guarantee their work.

O. K. here's the scoop....think about it...any kind of surfactant will clean your hair...even dish soap...but would you use it on your hair? So, any shampoo will make your hair clean but does it have the ingredients in it that will maximize your end result. Beauty products are no different from any other product we purchase, we get what we pay for. Here's an example...when we purchase wall paint...any old kind of generic paint will make the walls a different color but a good name brand wall paint will give us a much prettier glossy finish that will wear a long time. A cheap shampoo will clean your hair...but a better shampoo will clean your hair, leave it in better condition, and last longer because it's more concentrated and you use less. So instead of using two bottles of the cheap stuff you use one of the better. Get it? Doesn't mean you have to go broke buying the MOST expensive stuff...just be sensible and find what works best for your hair. The choice is yours.

NO...they're really not. They just cost more.
